Hi guys, did anyone get the streaming video playback working on OSX in Video Station? For me it's not working inside Video Station, regardless which browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox). Latest VLC player plugin is installed, VLC player itself as well. Downloading the Video File and playing it locally works, however, the promise was streaming. So - anyone with success and a how to - or is there still a lot of work for Synology to do on OS X?

VLC Media Player for Mac is a powerful and efficient app for playing all kinds of media in multiple formats right on your Mac. With this app in place, you can just download and watch what you want.
Cause if streaming is not working on OSX it's simply a #fail for me. Kind regards, modeless. To watch using a mac is a little fiddly but perfectly doable.
Fire up Videostation and select the channel to stream 2. Instead of copying and pasting the provided URL into a browser, past the into VLC using the Open Network location option from the file menu. When finished don't forget to turn the streaming off. To do this click on the eye on the right hand corner if the videostation window and click stop streaming. Not the best interface, but hey it is new.
Sadly no way to do this in the iPad or iPhone ap. If using VLC, I strongly recommend you turn on the de-interlace functionality as by default it is off and most programmes are in 576i or 1080i. I have problems on OSX too: VLC 2.0.4 - OSX Lion - Safari 6.0.1 64bit Pasting the populated URL doesn't work for me in VLC directly.
Pasting it into Safari leads me to the 'Quicktime Icon' which is showed as broken after a few seconds. Meanwhile the Address in the Address Field in Safari has automatically changed to: 192.168.0.100:9006 When I copy this new address into VLC it works I I get the live stream.
When I shut down the computer and start again and past this: 192.168.0.100:9006 in VLC again, it does`t work, but if I go back to the Synology Admin Page and follow the above step again, it works again. Very strange. Anybody has the same problems and perhaps even a solution?

That is because the web ap is using your domain name and as an external address you most likely don't have the correct ports open to fulfill the request.
The URL in the we app will however work if said IPs are open and your outside your network. Internally however, make sure you stick to sing the internal facing IP address, 192.168.1.100. Hi All: I just bought my Synology DS216j and I'm liking it.
I loaded a few videos onto it and downloaded the DS Video App for my iPad and I like it. I have one problem though. Is there an App similar to DS Video for Mac OSX, strictly for watching my movies? I have a 7 year old and he is OK with the computer but I am reluctant to let him go into Video Station on the web because he could make accidental modifications.
He has a separate user account on my MacMini and I would like to allow him access to a Read Only app. Note: My MacMini is hooked up to our TV in the living room and this is the only way for us to watch our movies on the TV.
My Apple TV is an older model and doesn't have an App Store, and my TV is not a Smart TV.
I am trying to build VLCKit on OS X 10.8.2. I've installed the latest Xcode as of today (2013.01.27).
Try cloning this repo instead: git clone git://git.videolan.org/vlc/vlc-2.0.git Then build with: cd vlc-2.0/projects/macosx/framework/ xcodebuild -target 'Build Everything' -configuration Release -project VLCKit.xcodeproj ARCHS='x8664' -sdk macosx10.6 It's unlikely to work first time so read these instruction all the way through - particularly the troubleshooting section I've just built the VLCKit 2.06 and am having some problems playing UDP streams. For me the solution, temporarily was to use the old stable branch here: git clone git://git.videolan.org/vlc/vlc-1.1.git.
